Calling the shots

Tom Sykes recalls a wonderful 1 September morning on the foreshore in the company of his brother and father – and a few more early birds, all hoping to bag the best spot around Morecambe Bay to begin the season. While that pre-dawn alarm can be a bit of a shock, here it heralds the opening of the wildfowl season and the promise of six month’s of challenging sport ahead, starting with the Canada geese. On this occasion, the Sykes family celebrated in style, with none of the trio going home empty-handed.
