Sporting Gun

What to do

-

BEFORE THE SHOOT

• Shoots should liaise with the local police prior to a day

• Gamekeepers should brief the Guns on the morning of the shoot on what to do if there is disruption

DURING THE SHOOT

• First rule is always safety

• If there is an incursion by protesters: be polite and ask them to leave, they will be committing trespass. If they disrupt they will be committing aggravated trespass and therefore a criminal offence, in which case the police should be called

• Sleeve your gun

• Gather all people from the shoot together and walk away

• Never react; don’t engage

• Antis will almost certainly be filming you and you could return in kind but this could be inflammatory and the idea is to de-escalate

• If you are alone carrying out pest control, have your licence to hand

• Be familiar with the law
