Top Sporting shot and coach Matt Hance continues his instructio­nal series. Here is a recap on what he has covered in Clay Shoooting magazine

It is a delight to be able to engage with a new set of readers, following the merger of the Clay Shooting Magazine and Sporting Gun. I felt it important to allow our readers to refresh themselves on everything that we have already covered, as we now reach Lesson 4 of the series.

To do this, I took a student of mine, Rhys Plum, over to College Farm Shooting Ground in Oxfordshir­e, to remind ourselves of the fundamenta­ls for good shooting.

Putting it into practice

To kick things off, we began by shooting this single left to right rabbit target.

MAPPING THE TARGET

Before we start shooting, we must first map out the target, just as we covered in Lesson 2. On this particular target, Rhys found it best to note particular features on the ground, such as clusters of broken clay or mounds of grass, which could be used as reference points. After calling for the
