Sporting Gun

Patricks’s top tips

-

• If you’ve not been foxing before, see if someone in your area would be willing to take you out for a session or two to show you the ropes. Most foxers are only too happy to help and there are plenty of online forums.

• If you’re not sure if foxing is for you, or your budget is too limited to buy all the kit in one go, then a rifle-mounted torch and LED hand-held lamp will get you going. Ludicrous Lumens do all manner of appropriate equipment: ludicrous-lumens.co.uk • Night vision and thermal imaging systems require diligent groundwork since everyone’s eyes are different. If you can, attend a night vision demonstration held by a gun shop or find out what foxers in your area use. Scott Country supply pretty well everything you could need: scottcountry.co.uk

• There are lots of different kinds of sticks available. Try a few out before parting with any money. I use the Vanguard Quest T62U tripod version, available from most gun shops. • And if you use any electronic kit, make sure you’ve got spare batteries or your trip could be fruitless.
