DESCRIPTION
If Cheltenham is the heart of the Cotswolds, then Ian Coley Sporting, just 15 minutes from the Regency town, is the heart of its shooting community. Founded in 1970 by legendary coach Ian Coley, today it stands as a truly modern facility dedicated to providing quality targets to all visitors.
■ The 24 Sporting stands, each with at least two traps, can be found by following the winding pathways through the ground’s classically Cotswoldian woodlands. Experienced Shots will be able to while away the hours trying to master them all at their own pace, thanks to Promatic automated traps that cover the entire estate.
■ There’s also a DTL layout, and three high towers that climb up to 120ft in height. These towers provide a vast range of high birds and simulated game targets. For those looking for the real thing, the on-site sporting agency can arrange a day out in the field, with opportunities available both in the UK and abroad (when travel restrictions allow).
■ If you are planning a big trip away, you will need to stock up on gear and equipment. The Ian Coley gun shop stands as one of the largest collections of new and used guns anywhere in the country, with around 1,000 shotguns and rifles in stock at any time.
■ The gun shop is reason enough to make the trip out to the Cotswolds, but when combined with the excellent shooting and stunning location, Ian Coley Sporting becomes one of those grounds that you just can’t help but recommend to anyone with even a passing interest in the sport.
