Pandemic sees cancellation of upcoming ISSF events
The ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, and the World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, have both been cancelled, with the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea being postponed to an unconfirmed future date. All cancellations and postponements are due to ongoing Covid restrictions.
According to the ISSF, the possibility of postponement was considered for the Junior World Cup, due to take place in Suhl, Germany, from 3-14 July. However, the GSSAF, a governing body that oversees shooting sports in Germany, told the ISSF that, after considering possible future time frames and the availability of key facilities and resources, “a postponement to later [date] in 2021 is also not manageable”.
A number of smaller ISSF events have also been postponed or cancelled. The 2021 World Championship Running Target, the European Championship Running Target and 2021 Junior World Championships in Lima, Peru have all been postponed to future dates.
With global vaccination gaining pace there is optimism that such cancellations will come to an end in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, all potential ISSF competitors are advised to keep an eye on issf-sports.org as new postponements and cancellations are being posted on a regular basis.
