DESCRIPTION
Widdington Farm, on Salisbury Plain, has long been famed for its shooting. For decades, the rolling hills and gently sloping valleys of the local landscape have lent themselves perfectly to the sport of English partridge shooting.
■ Twelve years ago, Jeremy Horton, who oversees both the farming and shooting on the estate, decided it was time to start offering year-round shooting. He set to work constructing a number of Sporting stands and worked hard to develop simulated game to match the local quarry, thereby revitalising Widdington Shoot and realising the potential of its stunning location.
■ Today, clay shooting is offered from the end of March until the end of August, with shooters able to enjoy more than a dozen stands. Targets are set to be challenging, but with enough variety to allow all visitors to enjoy a day of smashing clays. Thanks to a delayed buttoning system, experienced Shots can make use of all stands alone or with friends.
■ For those looking to enjoy Widdington’s famed partridges out of season, simulated game days are just like the real thing.
Targets are designed to perfectly mirror their feathered counterparts, with five drives, elevenses and lunch all included in the price.
■ In season – that’s between September and February – shooters can enjoy the real thing. Just like their simulated counterparts, game days include five drives divided by elevenses and finished with a delicious lunch in the clubhouse.
