Seonaid McIntosh
When your parents are worldclass top shots and your sister is an Olympian, you’ve got a lot to live up to – and Seonaid McIntosh has proved she is more than a match for her high-achieving family.
She burst onto the international scene in 2017, twice climbing to the top of the podium at the European Championships: first as the 50m Rifle Three Positions gold medallist; then alongside her teammates to take the 50m Rifle Three Positions team gold.
In the same year, Seonaid made her way out to the Commonwealth Championships in Brisbane, where she took gold in the 50m Rifle Three Positions competition, and silver in the 50m Rifle Prone event.
She returned to Australia the following year for the Commonwealth Games, where she claimed Bronze in both the 50m Rifle Prone and 50m Rifle Three Positions events.
Her biggest win in 2018 would come from Korea, and the ISSF World Championships, where she was crowned Women’s 50m Rifle Prone World Champion.
An incredible 2018 led to an unbelievable 2019, winning armfuls of silverware at ISSF World Cup events. In May, she claimed a silver in 50m Rifle Three Positions in Munich, in September she took gold for the same discipline at Rio, plus a silver in 10m Air Rifle. Then, in Putian, China, she claimed bronze in the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team events and the World Cup Final 50m Rifle Three Positions gold.
Seonaid returned to the European Shooting Championships, where she claimed a 50m Rifle Prone Mixed Team bronze with teammate Kenneth Parr. She then shot a mind-bending 599 in the 300m Rifle event to equal the World Record and win the gold medal. Now her sights are set on the top of the Olympic podium; she rarely misses.
