World English Sporting and Sportrap champions crowned

-

One of the highlights of the Sporting calendar returned to EJ Churchill at the West Wycombe Estate.

Last year’s event was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic but this year’s fixture was back up and running from 5-11 July.

Competition was tight in the English Sporting event. After a rather damp super-final, Mark Winser narrowly beat the competition to claim the World English Sporting Champion title with 210 out of 225, while Mark Webster and Martin Myers settled for second and third on 209 and 208 respectively.

Mark Winser said: “I’m delighted to win. I’ve come close to winning in the past, last time I was here I came second, so I’ve got history at EJ Churchill. It feels wonderful to get the win this time.”

In the Sportrap event the scores were even closer. Kallum Burrell claimed the title on 98 ex100, while five of the sport’s biggest names all tied on 97. After a tense shoot-off, Chip Smith claimed the second step on the podium with George Digweed third.

In the ladies’ categories, Cheryl Hall proved she was the woman to beat with a Sporting score of 174 ex200 and a Sportrap score of 92 ex100, positioning her as Ladies High Gun in both events.
