Cook up a stink
I read with interest the article ‘This stinks’ by Patrick Hook in the September issue of Sporting Gun. For many years I have been using a very simple, cheap and very effective bait, which is the liquid of boiled horseshoe clippings. The clippings are boiled in a container (outdoors!) and the liquid is then poured into 5-litre containers. I also add a few bits of the clippings. This is left to ferment for as long as possible and the resultant smell is pungent.
I use a spray bottle and squirt the liquid where I want the foxes to come in. It’s an excellent method and has never let me down. I understand that the ‘recipe’ is used in the US to attract bobcats.
Keep up the good work with the magazine. Steve Bradshaw, South Wales
