Steely resistance against move away from lead
This year’s Game Fair saw the formation of a new group coming together to ‘brainwash’ (the only word I think appropriate) all those who shoot into throwing in the towel on the use of lead shot. I find it despicable that all the associations who were formed to protect our sport have betrayed us. After a lifetime of shooting, being a major importer and retailer in the gun trade, plus running two pheasant shoots for over 40 years, I despair.
If we all sit back and take it on the chin, we will not be able to despatch game cleanly over 30 yards. This will almost certainly mean the end of high-bird shoots, and you will not be able to use a Best English side-by-side, the value of which has plummeted thanks to steel shot. No doubt several guns would have also been ruined as people experimented with the new alternative, so let us hope the cartridge manufacturers are ready to deal with the lawsuits heading their way.
We urgently need people with shooting experience to stand up against the direction of travel and challenge the prevailing narrative on the move away from lead. Name and email address supplied
