Sporting Gun

Commanders-in-chief

-

I work long hours and therefore my wife spends the majority of time with our labrador. How can I develop my relationship with the dog in order to train him to the level I would like when he is spending most of his time with others?

Fran says: One of the most important aspects of a gundog’s training is consistency, especially in the commands used. The majority of gundogs are in the same position as yours in that they are very much part of the family as well as working in the shooting field. I suggest you both seek advice from a gundog trainer who should give you a programme of training to focus your aims.

The trainer should be able to guide you in the use of verbal commands so you can both be consistent. Ten minutes of concentrated training is better than an hour’s disjointed training.
