model; others have windage ASV as well if you like. Each click adjustment equals to ¼ minute of angle (MOA) with the elevation sporting clear 0 to 19 MOA markings and ¼ MOA integers and an anticlockwise twist to elevate, three and a bit full turns. The windage had a non-numerical indication, however. Both achieve all the adjustment in both planes that you are likely to need out in the field.
More space
The illuminated No 60 reticule has lighter and finer reticule posts that only cover half the area of a normal reticule, leaving double the amount of space between them. This makes it perfect for precision shooting with minimum coverage of the game. Optional ballistic reticules are also available that allow the hunter to make elevation and windage corrections quickly with no mechanical adjustment.
Optically, the V4 has Zeiss’s high-definition glass with the Zeiss T* coating to guarantee bright, high-contrast images even in adverse lighting conditions or twilight. This achieves a healthy 90% light transmission to the eye for better target resolution/ recognition across the entire magnification range. Finally, the LotuTec coating for the lenses enables a clear view in all weather conditions. When it is very wet, the water just runs off the lens surface.
In use
I had tested a previous V4, 3-12x56mm on a Tikka Custom M65 in 7mm AK. I was impressed with its performance and wanted to test at the other end of the shooting spectrum. I fitted the 4-16x44mm to a new FAC-rated FX Dreamline Lite .22 airgun.

It produces 32ft/lb energy; I know many shooters who top this impressive FX airgun with Zeiss V4s.
I did my usual ‘shooting the box’ to test reproducibility in the tracking adjustment. Each vertical and horizon plane absolutely corresponded to the ¼ MOA click value and returned to put pellet on pellet at the original zero point. The same was true when testing the zoom range – no increase to diameter or outlier shots to the group were seen while zooming between 4x to 16x magnification. I like the No 60 reticule with its perfectly illuminated centre dot, offering an uncluttered view of the game and precise aim with any adjustments instantly taken up with the ASV turret.
This allowed some nice, longish range head shots on rabbits in gloomy conditions. The multi-coated lens managed to extract every last drop of available light, proving its worth in the field. I also had to cope with a downpour but the V4 can be submerged to a depth of 12 feet and be kept there for two hours with no risk of water infiltrating the scope.
Zeiss has got it right with this range of V4 scopes, which appeals to all levels of rifle shooters and disciplines with a premium product that won’t break the bank.
