Set in the beautiful grounds of Weston Park in Shropshire, the Midland Game Fair will this year be held on the 16-17 September. For over 30 years the popular show has celebrated all things country, and provided fairgoers with a vast array of shopping, entertainment and competitions to get their teeth into. This year’s event is no exception…

Guns and shooting

Gunmakers’ Row provides shooters of all disciplines with the opportunity to purchase guns from leading manufacturers, with a huge variety on offer to satisfy every taste and budget. Those seeking a little more action should head to the Clay Shooting Festival, headed by BASC, where safety courses, the coaching line, and a new ‘shooting experience’ offer fun and informative ways to spend the day. A variety of clay competitions with great prizes and incentives will also be running, including the Pro, Club, Junior and Veteran competitions. To top it all off, the Ladies Competition Grand Final will be hosted at the Fair, and all are welcomed to the BASC Ladies Shooting reception on the BASC stand where they are invited to take the weight off their feet, enjoy a glass of bubbly and some nibbles, and discover more about the great offers and discounts on offer. A new Fieldsports Arena, hosted by Next Generation Fieldsports, offers a great variety of fieldsports-related demos and activities, including gun safety and pigeon plucking.

Dogs

Gundogs are extremely well catered for at the Midland, with a portfolio of events that not only showcase the outstanding characteristics of working gundogs, but are also great fun for dogs and owners alike. Alongside a variety of gundog demonstrations, scurries and have-a-go opportunities, the Chudleys Gundog Championship is a must-see display of excellence, with the largest gundog prize fund in the world. Watch these canine superstars show us how it should be done. The Gundog Pavilion will also have over 30 breeds of gundog on show with breed representatives on hand to tell you more about their characteristics and temperaments; essential if you’re planning on buying a new dog, or just want to get your furry fix! Events for terriers and lurchers are also available, including the premier event Countyman’s Weekly Champion of Champions for earth and running dogs.

And the rest…

Food is usually high on everyone’s list of priorities, and a food festival offering countless culinary delights along with real ale brewers and live demos should be enough to satisfy the most ferocious of foodies. Kids can be kept entertained with all manner of have-a-go activities, and the main arena will be hosting several exciting displays. Don’t forget to check out the Folk Roots music festival stage too, and dance off some of those sausage rolls!
