Government incapable of sorting out energy

-

GOOD grief, this Government is incapable of developing strategies that work.

There are new contract auctions for wind and solar energy this year, and this is vitally important, but we could be doing so much better if we also added more energy storage to the grid. Sadly, the way that wholesale prices for electricity production work in the UK means that we’ll get increasingly out of balance.

So, what does this mean? Electricity that could be used to top up battery storage systems in the UK will go to waste or be transferred abroad at bargain prices when it could be stored to meet peak demand and so reduce electricity costs.

It’s not as if the Government couldn’t see this coming. They are just incapable of developing a proper strategy that will work for us and it’s way too slow to react to evolving market conditions.

This Government is too busy figuring out ways to give tax breaks to boost oil and gas profits and bragging about past achievements to think beyond their noses.

The Government is also ignoring the need to develop a plan for technologies that store energy for longer periods. I see progress being made in this around the world, but very little here.

Get a grip because this chaos reduces our productivity in many ways.

We’ve agreed on Net Zero for very good reasons, so why are we not doing this properly?
