LIGHTWATER has become the regional base for an advice service that helps people to find franchising opportunities.
Managers of Mr Franchise chose the village as the location for their first office in the south east of England, serving the Thames Valley and west Surrey area.
The company – which already has offices in Lancashire, the West Midlands and Cheshire – says it plans to create 5,000 new UK business owners over the next five years.
It matches clients franchises that match with their skills, lifestyle, ambitions and investment capability, so they can join the 620,000 people employed in the sector in the UK.
The new office will be run by Mike Doherty, who has 30 years’ experience in the corporate world.
He said: “I was looking to do something different and this is an opportunity for me to help people become their own boss.
“The people who come to us for advice are interested in becoming small business owners and may have access to funding to invest, but they don’t necessarily have a clear view of what type of business they want to operate.
“We work with them to find the right opportunity, looking at their skills and experience, what interests or excites them.”
Mr Franchise co- founder Iain Martin said: “Our client base is growing, the franchise sector in the UK is in good health and we believe there’s a good opportunity for Mr Franchise operations to succeed in all parts of the country.”
