Because sometimes you need to treat yourself

Star Courier (Surrey & Hants) - - HEALTH AND BEAUTY - By Laura Nightingale

THIS summer Mary Ann Weeks at Aveda launched a new spa and wellness studio at its beauty spot in Guildford town centre.

Another two floors were added to the High Street site in June to provide customers with more than just salon services.

The refurbished salon now offers Aveda signature treatments in a luxury spa area and exclusive yoga, pilates and barre classes in a wellness studio.

Open until 8.30pm Monday to Thursday, I popped along after work to enjoy a full body massage and a pedicure – as you do.

Stepping off the bustling cobbled High Street full of shoppers, I entered a haven of tranquillity.

The reception area on the ground floor looked very plush with an indulgent purple and luxurious gold colour theme running throughout.

I was guided upstairs to one of the similarly lavish treatment rooms for a private consultation before my signature Aveda massage.

Warm and cosy, gentle music played in the background and there was a soft robe and fluffy towels for changing.

Slow- paced, sensuous and personalised, give yourself some time ahead of your booking otherwise the consultation will eat into your valuable massage period.

The 60- minute Chakra Balancing Massage is an innovative treatment that incorporates Aveda’s Chakra Balancing Blend Aromas and focuses on the seven chakra centres in the body using a variety of massage techniques.

The guided meditation helps to enhance the benefits of stress- relief, decrease muscular tension and crease energy – and it tainly worked.

Unlike other massages I’ve had elsewhere in the past, this one was very personalised where you choose what aromas you like and pick out words that describe you best.

It was super relaxing yet targeted all the knotty areas and I didn’t want to get up after my hour of pampering.

After I changed back into my clothes, I went down a floor to the pedicure suite.

Don’t expect a stiff chair and the strong scent of nail varnish remover wafting about.

The private room is kitted out with a deep leather arm chair, quirky foot stall and lots of beautiful Anthropologie accessories.

Feeling summery, I chose a girly pink glitter shade for my 60- minute Jessica Gel Nails pedicure.

Just as relaxing as the massage, I was able to unwind and flick through a magazine incer- while my feet were being spoilt. Chatting away to my therapist, the pedicure lasted near 90 minutes but I left with silky smooth soles and dazzling toe nails.

Competing against the likes of Champneys and Guildford Harbour Hotel also in Guildford, Aveda offers a completely different range and approach to pampering.

Laura’s treatments were provided by Aveda, A 60- minute Chakra Balancing Massage cost £ 83 and a 60- minute Jessica Gel Nails pedicure costs £ 45. To book a treatment call Aveda on 01483 306655.
