COMING UP FOR OVERHAUL

-

1369: Having spent the South Devon Railway steam gala running alongside Beattie 2‑4‑0WT No. 30587, the unique ex‑Wadebridge pannier tank reaches the end of its current boiler certificate on May 9, but is expected to receive a swift overhaul. 7812: Erlestoke Manor has been passed by its boiler insurance inspector as fit to run until December 31 this year, meaning that it can remain in service at the Severn Valley Railway throughout the season, barring any other defects arising. Its tender was fitted with replacement wheelsets during January. 30053: With an extension to its boiler certificate, the Drummond Locomotive Society’s ‘M7’ 0‑4‑4T is to remain in traffic at the Swanage Railway until November. 30065: This ‘USA’ 0‑6‑0T made its last runs at the Kent & East Sussex Railway on January 1 before being withdrawn and placed in store to await overhaul. 30777 (777): It is proposed to renumber Sir Lamiel as No. 30777, using Southern ‘sunshine’ transfers, before its boiler certificate expires at the end of the year. This will replicate the locomotive’s appearance in 1948, when it received its BR number while still carrying Malachite green with Southern lettering on the tender. To see the National Collection ‘King Arthur’ through the last months of its boiler ticket, its custodian group, the 5305 Locomotive Association, plans to fit a new set of valve and piston rings. New cylinder and valve liners will be on the list of jobs for the forthcoming overhaul. 31592 (592): During January, the ‘C’ class 0‑6‑0 passed its final annual boiler examination at the Bluebell Railway. Its boiler certificate expires in May. 34070: Manston’s boiler certificate expires at the end of this year, with 257 Squadron to take its place on the Swanage Railway’s roster. The two air‑smoothed ‘Battle of Britain’ 4‑6‑2s will be in service together for part of the year following No. 34072’s return to steam. 44806: This year will be the last in traffic for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s ‘Black Five’, which will be withdrawn for overhaul at the end of the season.
