Neilson Reid 0‑6‑0T Coltness Iron Co. No. 1: The boiler has been returned to the Scottish Railway Preservati­on Society at Bo’ness. A new ashpan has also been fabricated for the 1899-built locomotive (Works No. 5710). The boiler is expected to be returned to the frames imminently, while the cab and tanks of the ex-Bedlay Colliery machine have also been prepared for reassembly. The SRPS hopes to welcome No. 1 back to service during 2017. Hunslet 0‑6‑0ST Ring Haw: The North Norfolk Railway-based locomotive is set to spend the summer at the Spa Valley Railway. The 1940-built ex-Nassington Quarry machine is due to run in the South East between May and October. It is scheduled to be in operation during the SVR’s ‘Summer Steam Festival’ on July 1/2. Hunslet 0‑6‑0ST Royal Engineer: A ‘ten-yearly’ overhaul of this ‘Austerity’ is nearing completion at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Its boiler received a hydraulic test during January. Andrew Barclay 0‑4‑0ST Forester: Works No. 1260 has left the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway for the West Somerset Railway, where restoratio­n by its owners is expected to take place. Once complete, a return to Pontypool for operation is understood to be likely. Hudswell Clarke ‘Cornist’ 0‑6‑0T Samuel Fox No. 20: The Llangollen Railway hire fleet locomotive (which also bears the post-preservati­on name ‘Jennifer’) has been sent to Peak Rail on loan. It is expected to remain at the former Midland Railway line for the full 2017 season. Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns 0‑4‑0ST Sir Cecil A. Cochrane: An initial hydraulic test for the Tanfield Railway engine was close as this issue closed for press. The 1948-built locomotive was withdrawn for a ‘ten-yearly’ overhaul on January 2. Manning Wardle 0‑6‑0ST Dolobran: The overhaul is making progress at the Great Central Railway (Nottingham). During February, the tank was lifted clear of the frames to allow work on the motion and frames to take place.
