static future fOr ‘quarry hunslet’ VELINHELI
After a ‘farewell tour’ that took in Fawley Hill, the Ffestiniog and Bala Lake Railways, Hunslet 0-4-0ST Velinheli will be confined to display in the Launceston Steam Railway’s museum for the foreseeable future because its boiler certificate has expired and a replacement is required. As built in 1886, the locomotive was equipped with a domeless boiler, a single injector and a crosshead feed pump. The present domed boiler, built at Port Dinorwic in 1925 and fitted in 1952, is not considered to be as effective as those without domes. Modern insurance rules require a locomotive to be equipped with two injectors, so owner James Evans is considering the options before proceeding.
