MAIN LINE GRESLEY ‘N2’ NOT FAR OFF

Not long now until ‘N2’ No. 1744 hits the main line – albeit on a fairly quiet bit of the network. The former King’s Cross 0-6-2T is having its electronic gizmos fitted ready for the start of the North Norfolk Railway’s season of Cromer dining trains on May 16. A wider return to the ‘big railway’ than the roughly 3½ miles of former Midland & Great Northern is now proposed after the former No. 69523’s forthcoming overhaul. The ‘ticket’ on the Gresley Society engine runs out next year; the Great Northern machine celebrates its centenary in 2021.
