Didcot to bid for lottery funding
Didcot Railway Centre is preparing a bid for Heritage Lottery funding towards its 1932 GWR engine shed. It is planned to allow visitor access to the footplates of more locomotives, with an improved design of steps. Other proposals include audio-visual presentations in the cabs of the engines and adjacent rooms, including recordings of former staff. Richard Preston, manager of the GWS ‘NonOperational Loco Group’, said: “We will be working on our submission this year – the overall objective is to enhance the visitor experience and to better convey what it was like to work in an engine shed.”
