Then Peo­ple swarm around the front of Ivatt ‘2MT’ 2-6-2T No. 41241 and ‘USA’ 0-6-0T No. 72 at the head of the Keigh­ley & Worth Val­ley Rail­way in­au­gu­ral preser­va­tion train on June 29 1968. This colour­ful Keigh­ley scene was cap­tured just weeks be­fore Bri­tish Rail brought the cur­tain down on main line steam.

Now Fifty years later, the en­gine that hauled the Manch­ester-Carlisle leg of the Au­gust 11 1968 ‘Fif­teen Guinea Spe­cial’ – No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell – de­parts from the op­po­site platform on March 10. The sig­nal box from Ship­ley and Gars­dale’s turntable have been re­lo­cated to the right (east) of the sta­tion since 1968.
