CENTENARIA­NS UNITE AT NORTH YORKSHIRE MOORS AUTUMN GALA

Three locomotive­s celebratin­g their 100th anniversar­ies will be attending the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s ‘Annual Steam Gala’ on September 28-30. Visiting 1918-built ‘28XX’ No. 2857 (from the Severn Valley Railway) and the Talyllyn Railway’s 0-4-0WT No. 6 ‘Douglas’ will be attending the three-day event, where they will line up alongside the NYMR’s resident centenaria­n ‘Q6’ No. 63395. Air-smoothed ‘Battle of Britain’ No. 34081 92 Squadron will also be visiting, courtesy of the Nene Valley Railway and the Battle of Britain Locomotive Society. ‘Douglas’ is the second narrow gauge locomotive to visit the NYMR, after Ffestiniog Railwaybas­ed ‘Quarry Hunslet’ 0-4-0ST Britomart became the first steam locomotive to use the former Grosmont horse tunnel at the same event in 2016 (see SR460).
