‘Merchant’ Men recce cornwall
St Blazey is a bit off their patch – so members of the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society have been down in the South West in advance of what’s believed to be the first ever trip into Cornwall by one of Bulleid’s big ‘Pacifics’. Clan Line is to make the 325‑ mile return trip from Temple Meads to Par for Pathfinder on June 16 (SR476). A piece of good news, as relayed by the society’s Paul Blowfield, is that No. 35028 should fit on the former GWR shed’s turntable – and without any fences having to be taken down. A second piece of good news is that there are still seats available on the appropriately named ‘Cornishman Express’. Although the focus is Cornwall, starting as it does in Bristol the train also takes on the South Devon Banks. Should be an interesting day.
