This month heralded the demise of the British Mandate of Palestine, and the Jewish state of Israel was created in its place. The creation of Israel, however, resulted in conflict between Arabs and Jews, with Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Iraq sending expeditionary forces to invade Israel.
