WHO WAS THE LADY IN RED?
Thank you all for your wonderful coverage of the 50 years since steam left the main line.
One of my recollections, from an article in Railway World magazine, was the report that when the last train left Preston on August 3 1968 “a blonde in a red mac broke a bottle on the bufferbeam just before the train pulled out”.
Who was she? Was it a bottle of beer? And have any pictures survived? Answers please to an excellent magazine near you. Geoff Johnson, by email
