PASS MASTER
Congratulations to Ben Collier for his great work of photo imagination to merge the picture of Union of South Africa and Leander (SR484, page 28). But where do you draw the line on publishing creative work such as this versus unaltered photographic images?
You’d have to be very fortunate to be in the right place to capture two steam-hauled trains passing, and Ray Churchill’s letter (Mailbag, SR484) reminded me of the No. 2857-hauled goods working to Newport on September 9 1985.
I was waiting to photograph No. 2857 the following morning as it approached the tunnel when I heard the sound of a train heading west. Expecting an HST, I was delighted to see No. 7029 Clun Castle emerge and I managed to capture the two of them together. I had been so focused on seeing No. 2857 that I had completely forgotten about the ‘Castle’ trip! Dave Hill, by email
