KESR platform to be rebuilt

-

Tenterden station platform, on the Kent & East Sussex Railway, is to be completely rebuilt during January and February 2019.

The eight-week project will involve raising the platform, which is currently lower than the stepboards of trains.

The platform surface also needs to be altered to slope away from the track, ensuring that items such as buggies or wheelchairs cannot roll off the edge, and the drainage requires improvement. The railway has stated that it intends to “maintain the heritage look and feel of the station as far as possible.”

Other proposals include extending the Headcorn (northern) end of the platform and building a wheelchairaccessible walkway adjacent to the siding that houses the ‘Wealden Pullman’ train, allowing it to be used for static dining.
