NORTHAMPTON & LAMPORT EXTENSION TO OPEN IN 2020
A £60,160 grant is to help the Northampton & Lamport Railway complete its southern extension to Boughton by spring 2020.
The EU’s LEADER Fund and Daventry District Council have contributed £45,160 and £15,000 respectively, which will help repair a seven-arch viaduct and a cattle creep, and build a five-coach platform.
NLR Operations Director Adam Giles says: “Work will start in early 2019 and, subject to obtaining a Transport and Works Order, it is hoped to open in spring 2020.”
Most of the track and signalling for the half-mile extension from its current limit of operations – Pitsford sidings – is already in place, but the NLR will need a further £18,000 to complete the extension. Anyone wishing to donate to the extension project can contact the railway via societysecretary@nlr.org.uk, or send cheques, payable to ‘Northampton and Lamport Railway CIO’, to: Southern Extension Appeal, Northampton & Lamport Railway, Pitsford and Brampton Station, Pitsford Road, Chapel Brampton, Northampton NN6 8BA.
