As this month marks the centenary of the Armistice, Unseen Steam has unearthed some amazing archive footage of locomotive classes which served on the Western Front in BR and early preservation days.

Watch First World War veteran ‘P’ No. 27 running at the Bluebell Railway in the 1960s, an LNER ‘J15’ working to Norwich and Lowestoft in 1960 and a ‘J36’ on railtour duties in Scotland.

Great Western locomotives also star, with a ‘Dean Goods’, ‘28XX’ and ‘43XXs’ all featuring. We finish with footage of an LNER ‘O4’ – formerly GCR ‘8K’ – at work in 1956.
