ARTS COUNCIL APPROVAL FOR RAVENGLASS MUSEUM
Ravenglass Railway Museum has been awarded full accreditation by Arts Council England.
The museum, which tells the story of and displays exhibits from the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, was founded as an independent charity 40 years ago and reopened in June 2017 after extensive redevelopment.
Museum manager David Rounce says: “The hard work the team has put in over the last few years has put the museum on an excellent footing for the future.”
The accreditation scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums which cover every aspect of operation, from visitor services to volunteer management, forward and emergency planning and collections care. Ravenglass Museum now officially meets the same standards as the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum.
●● The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum at Tywyn, on the Talyllyn Railway, has had its accreditation renewed by the Welsh government. It will not be reviewed again until 2022.
