IMAGES 2019: WORLD STEAM IN CAMERA
• MIKE TYACK
Beautiful images. Nothing of note.
PRICE: £7.75 (inc. UK P&P) RATING:
Mainly taken in the 1970s and
1980s, this varied selection portrays the declining years of steam in places far off the beaten track, such as Bolivia and the South Maitland Railway colliery system in Australia. Even in better-known territory such as India’s Nilgiri Mountain Railway, it offers a different viewpoint – and makes even a bunker-first engine look good!
As beautiful as the photography is, however, the captions add the final flourish – often telling the entertaining stories behind the lineside chases that resulted in the pictures. (TJ)
