Southall pannier Sale will benefit Saddle tankS

Steam Railway (UK) - - NEWS FOCUS -

Southall’s GWR Preservation Group has sold its pannier tank No. 9682 to an as-yet undisclosed buyer.

As detailed last issue, the BR-built ‘8750’ 0-6-0PT had been placed on the market in a dismantled state, having last steamed in 2010 at the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway.

The sale includes the GWRPG’s ‘Toad’ brake van, and the proceeds will assist with the overhauls of the group’s two remaining steam locomotives – RSH 0-4-0ST Birkenhead, on loan to the Elsecar Heritage Railway, and Peckett 0-4-0ST William Murdoch at the Helston Railway.

It is yet to be confirmed when No. 9682 will move to its new home. GWRPG Director Mike Gorringe said: “Getting it out involves crossing West Coast Railway Company’s tracks, and they’ve got a lot of trains running over Christmas, but it’s under discussion.”
