ANOTHER NEW GWR ‘COUNTY’ IS BORN
New Churchward ‘County’ 4-4-0
No. 3840 County of Montgomery officially came into existence with the cutting of its frame plates at Tata Steel of Wednesfield on November 13. The first new metal cut specifically for the Churchward County Trust, the 22-foot frames are the first to be produced for the class since 1911. After shotblasting and painting, they were expected to arrive at Tyseley towards the end of November, with the trust’s ‘100 Hundreds Appeal’ seeking to raise £10,000 for their drilling and machining.
