READY REPLACEMENT FOR ‘NUMBER NINE’?

Steam Railway (UK) - - MAILBAG -

That Dominion of Canada may be unwanted does not surprise in the least.

When it came over here in 2012 for the ‘Great Gathering’ of all six ‘A4s’, its condition was nothing short of disgraceful, and now it has been relegated from prime display.

I hope it can be brought back here, where it belongs, will be cared for and maybe restored to working order. After all, we are losing Union of South Africa when it goes into retirement next year. B. Wood, Thetford

For the record, neither the ‘Terrier’ or ‘A4’ are hidden from the public for most of the year. It is only during winter months that they are effectively locked up. It is not impossible that Exporail may decide to retain the two engines in its review, as part of the examination of the entire collection, although this may take some time – Ed.
