An LMS box van at the Great Cen­tral Rail­way will re­gain what is thought to be its cor­rect num­ber – 25 years af­ter en­ter­ing preser­va­tion. Ac­quired from Rosyth Dock­yard as part of the Steam Rail­way-sup­ported ‘Wind­cut­ter’ pro­ject, it was num­bered M501438, but re­search con­cluded that it is prob­a­bly No. M500954, recorded as be­ing dis­posed of at In­verkei­thing near Rosyth.

• YOUNG VOL­UN­TEER AWARD

South Devon Rail­way mem­ber Josh Con­nolly has won the line’s ‘Young Vol­un­teer of the Year’ award. He is thought to be preser­va­tion’s youngest cross­ing keeper, hav­ing qual­i­fied for the job on his 18th birth­day.

The Bala Lake Rail­way wel­comed more than 29,000 pas­sen­gers in 2018. The fig­ure rep­re­sent a 50% in­crease since Gen­eral Man­ager David Jones joined from the Llan­beris Lake Rail­way in 2014, when it stood at 19,000.
