Work begins on GC canal bridge
Work has commenced on the restoration of the Great Central Railway’s canal bridge at Loughborough, in the latest stage of the ‘Bridging the Gap’ project.
The lattice parapets of the bridge over the Grand Union Canal, behind Loughborough locomotive shed, were lifted out on December 12 to be transported to a contractor in Wales for restoration.
The GCR’s £475,000 ‘Crossing the Canal’ appeal to pay for the restoration of the bridge (SR475) has raised over £300,000.
