COM­MER­CIAL MAN­AGER – NORTH NOR­FOLK RAIL­WAY

Due to the re­tire­ment of the present in­cum­bent, the North Nor­folk Rail­way wishes to ap­point a Com­mer­cial Man­ager. The po­si­tion is a se­nior role re­port­ing to the Gen­eral Man­ager work­ing along­side the man­age­ment team cov­er­ing En­gi­neer­ing, Op­er­a­tions and In­fra­struc­ture man­age­ment.

The can­di­date will ide­ally have worked in su­per­vi­sory role(s) and will be a mo­ti­vated, self-start­ing in­di­vid­ual with good vi­sion on how to prof­itably grow a thriv­ing busi­ness and able to demon­strate good man­age­ment skills. Rail­way ex­pe­ri­ence is pre­ferred but not an es­sen­tial re­quire­ment to do this job.

An un­der­stand­ing of re­tail and cater­ing busi­ness is an im­por­tant as­set as the post holder will man­age the op­er­a­tion of the suc­cess­ful North Nor­folk­man din­ing trains which is a key growth seg­ment of the busi­ness.The Rail­way stages a num­ber of ma­jor events each year and the post holder will be re­spon­si­ble for de­vel­op­ing, or­gan­is­ing and man­ag­ing these. An un­der­stand­ing of the im­por­tance of hav­ing a prof­itable en­ter­prise is a key re­quire­ment in each of the busi­ness seg­ments in this port­fo­lio.

The Com­mer­cial Man­ager is di­rectly re­spon­si­ble for the Rail­way’s Re­tail, Cater­ing, Ed­u­ca­tion, Marketing and Ad­min­is­tra­tive bud­gets to­gether with a per­ma­nent staff of 15.

As with all her­itage rail­ways there are many vol­un­teers who work in all ar­eas of the Com­pany.The post holder will know how to man­age staff and vol­un­teers and be able to get the best out of both paid and un­paid staff.

The in­di­vid­ual will be an in­no­va­tive thinker who needs no en­cour­age­ment to work ‘out­side the box’ and can bring a fresh ap­proach to the range of ex­ist­ing rail­way events.The driv­ing force will be the prof­itable growth of a £2m busi­ness port­fo­lio.

The post will in­volve week­end and bank hol­i­day work­ing as well as an on-call com­mit­ment.
