The main locomotive targets for winter work on the Talyllyn Railway are Fletcher, Jennings 0‑4‑2ST Talyllyn and 0‑4‑2T no. 7 Tom Rolt. Talyllyn’s boiler was sent to the Mid‑Hants Railway for repair in December. The subject of a ten‑year exam, no. 7 has been de‑tubed and its boiler jacked up to improve access for examination. although some pitting was found in the front barrel, the railway expects to return the locomotive to service in 2019. Tom Rolt has been stripped down for its ten‑year boiler exam and overhaul.
