RICHMOND ACQUIRES TEDDY’S PIXIE

-

The private Richmond Light Railway in Kent has acquired the Reverend Teddy Boston’s Bagnall 0-4-0ST Works No. 2090 Pixie.

It was based at the reverend’s Cadeby Light Railway since he purchased it from Cranford quarry in 1962. When the railway closed in 2005, Pixie was sold to a private owner who started its ‘ten-year’ overhaul; the majority of the rest of the rector’s collection was amalgamated with the Apedale Valley Light Railway-based Moseley Railway Trust.

The RLR took delivery of the 1919-built engine in June. RLR owner Jeremy Martin said: “We will complete the overhaul which was started by the previous owner. The railway is currently completing the overhaul of ‘Quarry Hunslet’ Elin; once this is finished, attention will turn to Pixie.”

Elin is expected to re-enter traffic in August, having received new tyres and a new wheel centre casting. The 1899-built 0-4-0ST (Works No. 705) has also had new axleboxes and main bearings cast.
