TALYLLYN PROJECTS TO GO AHEAD AS APPEALS HIT TARGETS

-

Two of the Talyllyn Railway’s current appeals – to rebuild the Ty Dwr ^ watering point and restore Corris Railway carriage No. 17 – have both hit their targets.

The railway’s £4,000 appeal to rebuild its original 1865-built locomotive watering point at Ty Dwr, ^ between Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol, launched in November last year (SR488), received a welcome boost in June when railway holiday company, PTG Tours, agreed to sponsor the total project cost. In addition to the £1,200 already raised by the appeal, the project can now moved forward.

Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society Chairman Ian Drummond said: “We are most grateful to PTG Tours and to Paul Spracklen, who has facilitated it. This means the appeal has met its target. Now the challenge is to make the reconstruction a reality and make a little bit of our heritage live again.”

Meanwhile, the TR’s £20,000 appeal to rebuild and restore unique surviving Corris Railway carriage No. 17 also hit its target in the late spring, with the total standing at £22,781 at the time of going to press – less than ten months after it was launched.

Mr Drummond said: “Work on the restoration of the carriage is now under way. We are currently awaiting a delivery of specially cut timber sections which can then be fitted to the stripped-down carriage.”
