Spinning good yarn

-

If you like a good“yarn”Strathcarron Hospice in Denny is the place to be this week.

The hospice is opening its ground to the public from today until Friday for a“yarn bombing”display.

It is thought the event will make Strathcarron the first hospice in Scotland to host such a large display of knitted yarn and crochet in their grounds.

The yarn bombing will cover trees, sheds and“anything that doesn’t move”in wool.

The initiative has been supported by lots of people in the Forth Valley area who have relentlessly knitted and crocheted squares, animals and flowers for the display. The effort has led to some of the volunteers being dubbed locally as“the Strathcarron Hospice Shreddies Nanas”.

People will also be able to visit the annual Strathcarron Hospice Day Care Patient Art Exhibition.

This year the hospice has joined with Forth Valley Open Studios to display art and craft work created by patients attending the Day Care unit.

The art exhibition is open from today (Wednesday) until Friday from 2-5pm.

The hospice hopes it will encourage the public to visit the grounds and find out more about the hospice itself.

Strathcarron chief executive Irene McKie said:“We are proud of the wonderful art and crafts created by our patients and we are delighted to display their art work as part of the Forth Valley Open Studios event. The Yarn Bombing looks fantastic and we would like to encourage as many people as possible to come to and visit our display.

“Lots of people believe that a hospice is a scary place and this is a great way to encourage them to visit and to dispel any myths that they might have.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped with the knitting and crocheting. The items they have produced are just amazing and we couldn’t have organised this event without them.”
