Parents are facing fines over parking

- Hamish Hutchinson

Parents who illegally park on the school-run to Bannockburn Primary are being warned by police they could face a fine.

Officers are monitoring Fairgreen Place in the town at the start and end of the school day following complaints of disruptive parking.

In what is being called the “education phase” drivers parked illegally will be given a warning and their registration plate noted.

If they are caught again a fixed penalty notice will be issued, Bannockburn Community Council heard at Thursday’s monthly meeting.

It follows the recent installation of new parking restrictions at the front of the school on Quakerfield, towards the junction with Greenacre Place, where parking is not allowed between the hours of 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

Tommy Cattigan, secretary of the community council, said the parking restrictions were imposed following consultation with the council, school, parents and the police following “many years” of problems during the schoolrun.

He said: “It’s not a massive street and children were opening the car doors out on to the road. It was a safety concern.

“After consultation had taken place it was agreed that the new parking restrictions outside the school would be put in place.

“It has taken some time to arrange this but the risk of school children opening cars on to this busy road has been resolved.”
