Woman attacked two ex-boyfriends

- Donna White

A 25- year- old woman appeared in Stirling Sheriff Court for two fights with ex-boyfriends.

Lorraine Connal, of King Street, Larbert, appeared for sentencing on Wednesday (June 10) after pleading guilty to two physical altercations within four months.

She admitted conducting herself in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace at The Bridge Project in Upper Bridge Street last September 14, by shouting, swearing, pushing, shoving and engaging in a struggle.

She also pleaded guilty to assaulting Nicholas Jordan on Christmas Day, pushing him, shouting and swearing at him and punching him while brandishing a bottle at him at Middlemuir Road.

Depute fiscal Ann Orr said Connal had been in an on- off relationship with Andrew Hall when he was seen running out into the street by staff at the Bridge Project, looking to be in pain.

Ms Orr explained: “She ran at Mr Hall and they began to push and shove at each other and engaged in a struggle.

“This occurred out in the street and ended up in the road. One driver had to stop or swerve to avoid hitting them.”

In the second incident, Connal had just finished a two-week relationship with Mr Jordan when they passed each other on the stairs of the block of flats where they both lived

Ms Orr added: “It seems she had a bottle of wine with her. She raised it as if to strike him, then approached him, struck him and shouted at him.”

When police received an anonymous tip off about the confrontation, they found CCTV which showed the entire incident.

Defence solicitor Greg Cunningham said the offences were committed when Connal was in homeless accommodation and alcohol was playing “a big part in her life”.

He said she had turned her life around, having a baby with a new partner she planned to marry.

Sheriff Charles McFarlane sentenced her to 100 hours of unpaid work for each charge, to run concurrently and to be completed within six months.

He said: “You can hopefully make a positive journey throughout the rest of your life. The (social work) report is positive.

“You may be an example of someone who has been able to benefit from community payback orders and rehabilitation.”
