Family run for tragic doctor

The family of a Stirling GP who died in his sleep completed a charity run in his memory.

Dawson Mennie’s two brothers joined two of his cousins to take part in a 10km race at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival last month.

They raised £3600 for the Eilidh Brown Trust.

Dr Mennie ( 37), who suffered from diabetes, died on January 24. The fatherof- two lived in Deanston and worked at Park Avenue Medical Practice in Stirling. Dr Mennie was originally from Banchory, near Aberdeen, and attended Aberdeen University b e f o re joining the GP register in 2005. He was a devoted dad to Harris (3) and baby daughter Robyn.

His widow Mhairi works as a nurse at Leny Practice in Callander and the couple were married in June 2012.

On May 30 brothers David and Gavin ran the 10km race alongside cousins Michael and Ailsa Harper and Ailsa’s partner Matt.

Dawson’s parents George and Diane said: “It was a cold and windy morning but they gallantly completed the course in memory of Dawson.

“Some of the sponsorshi­p came from Central Scotland and we’d like to thank everyone for their generous donations.”

In a statement following his death the Park Avenue surgery said: “We were shocked and saddened to learn of Dr Mennie’s death. He will greatly be missed by colleagues and patients.”

A service of thanksgivi­ng was held at Dunblane Ca t h e d r a l , w h e r e donations were made to the Eilidh Brown Memorial Fund.
