Award time for players
Doune Castle’s Stirling and District side concluded the club’s 60th anniversary season with their Player of the Year Awards in the Highland Hotel, Doune, the club’s main sponsor.
Manager Steven Innes reflected on a season of mixed fortunes. As a newlypromoted side, the team was delighted to have retained their status in the First Division and he recalled many pleasing aspects of displays throughout the league programme, but identified inconsistency as an area for future focus.
Looking forward, Steven felt that with a sound pre-season and the addition of one or two players to the squad, the team should be confident of challenging at the top end of the league.
Long-serving Castle stalwart Billy Hurst presented the awards. Murray Docherty received the top accolade, picking up the trophy for Player of the Year, making it two--in-a-row for the consistent and stylish defender.
Jonny Coubrough was a double-award winner. Jonny was named Players’ Player of the Year and also received the golden boot as top goalscorer.
Chris MacDonald received the Man of the Match Award, reflecting a series of outstanding displays.
Doune Castle AFC would like to express their thanks to all sponsors and supporters for their encouragement and generosity throughout a season of significant progress and development.
