Amazing £11k to help Connor

A fund set up for a Stirling University student left paralysed after injuring his spinal cord playing rugby has passed the £ 100,000 mark.

A dinner and auction organised by Connor Hughes’ team-mates and University of Stirling old boys last month raised £11,000 for the Connor’s Journey Fund.

The sum was a “fantastic result”, according to event organiser Duncan Fisher.

“In all honesty the £11,000 raised at the dinner is way above our original expectatio­ns,” said Duncan, who graduated from Stirling University in 2009.

The 27- year- old PR consultant now plays rugby for Stirling County.

The fundraisin­g event was held in the Bridgehaug­h clubrooms of the local rugby club last month.

“It shows the incredibly high regard in which Connor is held by his current and former team-mates,” added Duncan, “and how much everybody wants to support him on his journey.

“It was brilliant that Connor and his family were able to attend the dinner, and the night proved a huge success.

“A massive thank-you goes to everyone who helped make the function such a special night, especially our sponsors and those people who donated items to the auction.
