A new group which will provide support for deaf children and their families in the Forth Valley area holds its first fun get together on Sunday.

Called the Forth Valley Deaf Children’s Society, the group has been established by the parents and carers of deaf children in the area.

It brings the total to nine such groups affiliated to the National Deaf Children’s Society across the country.

The new group has been established to provide support for deaf children up to the age of 18 years old and their families in the local council areas of Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire.

It will also represent the views of families and the interests of the children at meetings of local services such as health, education and social work forums.

Chair of FVDCS, Hugh Kelly said: “We are a newly established registered charity run by a group of volunteers, consisting of parents, families, professionals and friends of deaf children throughout Forth Valley.

“We meet regularly to organise events and plan fundraising activities to support local deaf children and their families throughout the Forth Valley area.

“As a new group we are keen to grow our membership, which is open to all families of deaf children age 0-18 living in Forth Valley.

“Membership is free and families can join by emailing the group at : forthvalley@ ndcsgroup. org.uk or by contacting us via the group’s Facebook page.”

The Forth Valley DCS is organising their first get together for families of deaf children on Sunday ( June 21).

The fun event will take place at 2pm at the Helix Park at The Kelpies in Falkirk.

Mr Kelly added: “This will be an informal event and a chance for families to meet the group and other local families of deaf children.

“To attend families are welcome to contact the group through the website or Facebook.”
