Sara scoops the Dux award
Numeracy Group: The group is undertaking a three-week programme of multiplication and all new S2 and S3 reg classes are competing in a five minute multiplication frenzy in the morning. Pupils are competing to improve their multiplication skills; times-tables they are not sure of have been made on a small flip-book which they can practice at home and get parental support.
Edible Border: On Monday, June 8 a team from Stirling Council worked with Bannockburn High to support the edible border project. Willie, Bert, Grant and Jamie were enthusiastic and interacted positively with pupils, giving them lots of help with the planting.
Bannockburn Celebrates 201415: On Tuesday, June 9, staff, pupils, parents and invited guests assembled at the Albert Halls in Stirling to celebrate the achievements and present awards for the 2014-15 session.
The ceremony began with school pipers and drummers leading in the processional party of Mr and Mrs McParland and invited guests including the parents of Dux, Proximi Accessit and Junior Dux, friends of the school including Mr Millar from the Rotary, Mr Mailer from Whyler photography and Mr Morton from the Stirling Observer, primary headteachers and Ms Davidson and Dame Anne McGuire, who presented the awards. Also in the party was Mr David Halcrow, PT of Health who is taking early retirement after a long and happy career at the school.
Mr McParland began his presentation by congratulating Mrs Hamilton, depute headteacher on her successful appointment of headteacher of Springburn Academy. He went on to launch the new school values with new school badge featuring the motto “ASPIRE” - Ambition, Success, Positive behaviour, Integrity, Respect and Excellence.
This has been introduced through consultation with the whole school community and a new logo has been designed by Mrs Fleming in the art department. The school captains also gave their a view of the school year.
After the presentation of the S1-S3 Awards, Dame Anne McGuire took to the stage and gave an uplifting and humorous address, after which she presented the S4-S6 Awards.
The whole evening was interspersed with pupil participation which included the choir, who sang a medley of songs from Abba and finished with Fields of Gold, the trash fashion show and Mr McParland and depute headteacher Mr Millar leading a group of P7 from feeder primaries in a samba session.
